Miss Alice C. Fletcher,

Your letter came to me alright and I was sorry that I did not inclose your questions which I intended.

I saw the old man and he says from what I have not told you that the man with wings were men who were anointed and had sacrificed Buffalo to Te-ra-wa, and who had a right to send their prayers to Te-ra-wa. They represented the Ka-was who early in the morning would flap its wings to clear of its nest from dirt: so these men are required early in the morning to sweep ^[[the lodge]] with these wings and had the lodge clean by the time children came in. The right wing must always be of the white-Eagle while the left must be of the Ka-was - The other is the same I hope Francis and all of you are well - Your Friend James R. Murie
Miss Fletcher I am now working all the time, the other young man left so I took his place but I shall take time to help you -
Your Friend
