The substance of the reviewer's reply was that he had, of course, no thought of disparaging Prof. Fillmore's most valuable work, in collecting & publishing new material; but that his statements in regard to certain points of old world music and musical theory were either incorrect, or used ^certain terms which have a definite and generally-accepted meaning, in senses which were very misleading to those who only knew them in their conventional sense: and he was not at all disposed to modify his position as to this.
