Dear Miss Fletcher:-

I am enclosing some advance pages of the "Indian Dictionary" which the Bureau hopes to publish during the present calendar year and on which several collaborators are now engaged. Will you not have the goodness to help us to the extent of preparing a brief article (say from 500 to 100 words) on [[handwritten X to the left of the word Music]] "Music and Musical Instruments" and [[handwritten X above the word on]] on "Totemism"?

I shall be much gratified if you will undertake these, and the Bureau will of course be glad to compensate you at the usual cyclopedia rates.

Very truly yours,
[[signed]] W. H. [[Holmes]] [[/signed]]
Chief.

Miss Alice Fletcher,
214 First Street, S.E.
Washington.
