Miss Alice C. Fletcher,
214 First Street, S.E.,
Washington, D. C.

Dear Madam:

On account of press of work in various departments throughout our organization during and immediately following the Christmas holidays, we have been unable to adjust our records in accordance with your instructions, at an earlier date.

On December 20, you will recall having made a remittance of $12.50 (your check #9062) for dues of three members, namely:

Dr. Homer I. Ostrom, Waquoit, Mass.
Miss Alice F. Egleston, 509 Madison Ave., Helena, Mont.,
Mrs. Arthur Laughton, The Porch, Newnham Croft, Cambridge, Eng.

From the amount in hand, we deducted $4.00 to cover a fourteen months' subscription for Miss Alice Egleston; $4.50 for a year's subscription in favor of Mrs. Arthur Laughton; and the remaining $4.00 we applied to dues of Dr. Homer I. Ostrom, who has been a member of The National Geographic Society since 1919. As members receive their copies at a lower rate than subscribers, we only needed $3.00 to insure delivery of the Geographic Magazine to Mr. Ostrom for a full year, while in other cases we require $3.50 (domestic); $4.50 (foreign).

As a member of The National Geographic Society, it is your privilege to nominate others for membership, and in order that you may receive the full benefit of your membership we have transferred Miss Egleston and Mrs. Laughton from subscribers to members, so that the three-dollar rate applies in the case of Miss Egleston and $4.00 (foreign) on the membership of Mrs. Laughton. As Mr. Ostrom already had a credit of fifty cents on 1922 dues, we only required $2.50 to complete 1922, or a total of $9.50 for the three accounts. This left $3.00, which the treasurer of the Society will refund by our check, under another cover.

Assuring you of our appreciation of your continued support of the Society, we are

Very truly yours,
