A man of learning, of ability and of a rare rectitude of thought & judgement honored & respected by both Indians & white people. His father Dr. Williamson was one of the early workers among the Sioux & was associated with Rev Dr. Riggs in the labor of reducing the Dakotah language to writing & translating the Scriptures into that tongue The Rev. John Williamson speaks Dakotah like a native and is known among the the Indians as the "good man" "John". 

It will be 13 years next March since Mr & Mrs Williamson [[strikethrough]] went [[/strikethrough]] took up their residence & work among the Yanktons. Previous to their coming, no systematic efforts had been made toward educating this Tribe.
