Today I mail a package registered to your address. It is the petition of 53 Omaha Indians asking that titles be given them to the lands on which they have worked and practically 
homesteaded. But for the failure of this years crops, which has forced an unusual number of the Omahas to go out trapping, there would be more signers. Over one hundred families are away. Several men among the absent Indians are known to be [[strikethrough]] of the same mind as the signers of the petition. [[/strikethrough]] deserving for titles. There are about 200 men working on [[strikethrough]] farms [[/strikethrough]] claims. The entire Tribe numbers between 1000 and 1100, and is generally agricultural. Within the Tribe there are
