[[?My mark]]

Feb. 4, 1882.

Hon John F. Morgan.

Your letter apprising me of the presentation of the petition [[strikethrough]] led [[/strikethrough]] reached me duly, but owing to circumstances beyond my control its acknowledgement has been delayed. Thanks for the Record.

I am sincerely thankful that the petition found so honorable a presentation, and that Senator Dawes spoke so forceably upon it. When it is presented may I ask for a few copies?

Tho. the great point is, that the petition may be granted. Many of the Omaha's who were away trapping have returned, & learning of the peition, they have asked me: "Can not my name be put down? [[strikethrough]] wh [[/strikethrough]] I can send on their names, & statistics of their work if it will add force to the petition. If you could know how eagerly these men ask if there is any [[strikethrough]] news [[/strikethrough]] word from Washington. It is like the cry of old [[strikethrough]] Old Cry [[/strikethrough]] "Watchman will the night soon pass?" God grant
