The Indians need a young & vigorous man who will be able to go over the length & breadth of the Reserve, who will be their Shepherd, gathering them in the fold where they shall prosper & learn upon his care. Their homes are secure, more than two score of their best youth are under training, [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] their thoughts are stirred by the changes upon them, they need now as never before a minister. God has touched the heart of a young man here to go to them & consecrate himself, and will you not open the way? It is a cry that cannot be stifled & your Presbytry came let the help come, and surely no one would dare refuse, so plain a duty.

My intent & work is surely for the Indian & Tribe. no lack of appreciation of Mr. Hamilton. The welfare of 1100 Indians, the young man to be their Leader, in the new path before them The way is too hard for aged feet to tread.

May the Lord strengthen you to do this work of mercy — with Dr. Kellogg, Mr. Tham, Mrs. Wade, & with pleasant memories,

Yours sincerely
