The story of the Creeks, who had become successful agriculturalists and stock raisers, owners of slaves and other property, and who were forced in 1826, 27, and 30 to the Indian Territory, echos the same sad strain.

In 1822 missions of the Methodist church were begun among the Chippewas of Michigan, the Pattawatomies of Illinois, the Wyandottes in Canada. In 1828 missions were started among the Choctaws in Mississippi. So successful was this work, that in a little over two years, 4,000 had become identified with the church.
