5. allotments I have done the work of 1900. I have a heavy years work accomplished already. The work to be done comprises, the new survey of about 3 townships and about 350 allotments. The people are classified & I know their location, the trouble is to push the survey & grading of the land. The surveyor declares the work [[underlined]] cant be completed, [[/underlined]] & he can manage to thwart me. I cant put a new man in the field for I find that the company covers all the available men. I had said I would put on a man but I find that there is no one who would work honestly here abouts. Were it two months earlier, I would dismiss the surveyor, send for an eastern man & close. As it is I cant; the time lost in transporting a new man, cant be made up at this late date. Some times I think it would be best to close the work [[strikethrough]] from [[/strikethrough]] as soon as the townships [[?trust]] of the [[?character]] are seen, & bring a new man next year. I could close then in a dew weeks, & honestly, dread the wickedness of this place, it is the nearest to hell one can imagine.
