In view of the feeling Gen. and my knowledge of my Surveyors weakness, and the all but impossibility for me to watch every movement of so many enemies & present something money being one, I do not feel safe with my present Surveyor. I cant replace him here, and it is too late to import one for this season, and therefore I lay the case before you, for advice. I can push on, do the best I can [[work?]] with the forces at hand, I now doubt if I can get through this season. Please remember I have the Agent working against me, political cabals on all sides of the reservation, the Indians worked up within the reservation, and no one I can trust. The Christian progressive church are firmly with me, but are made to feel the Agents displeasure because they are so, Nearly all these are allotted. & they are anxious lest it be true what they are told by those in power that their allotments of good land will not stand after I am gone. I am sorry to write all this, but it is but just to you and me, that you should know the trouble & if you will advise me, I feel as tho. you [[are?]] the Indians only friend. [[?]] you [[?]] your [[?health]] [[?wishes]] [[?]] you.

Your friend Alice C. Fletcher.
