I wrote today to Rosalie to ask her mother the question as to whether the rafters were notched - also about lacing the slats.

You may think I've been slow. I've had many interruptions & some matters I had to attend to for my Cousin.

Tom is picking the pears - Some are mellow Many are not. They were falling and making the garden a pig pen. Every thing is dry for the drought has been long - I am doing all I can to save the garden. Don't hurry home until the autumn weather sets in here. Yesterday I called at Jim Bradleys to see about Clara- & learned that Miss Kate was home. I did not see her as she was at lunch, & had the next door family. I suppose Miss Nettie is at Cold Spring.

I have such a lot of work to do & I am not yet straightened out from unpacking. So dear, I have not neglected your wish to send the data as soon as possible. You are a [[trump]] & I miss you dear. Ever lovingly Alice
F. sends love.
