My dear Louise.

It is good to hear from you. Three letters have come, two of same date & [[?idly]] delayed & one of last Saturday. So glad to get word from you.

My love to your Leslie & my deepest sympathy for her accident, which seems very strange. I hope that it will leave no serious results. It was too bad to have her care of you turn into pain. Be sure & keep me informed of how she is, & you too. What of the young lady Jane, has she gone to Ratcliff? Love to her.

I am in search of a cook. I had engaged one, but she was offered higher wages & sends me word she cannot come. I am glad, for I did not like her, she was too talkative & familiar. So I am now on the hunt

[[marginalia]] R. sends her respects. F. his love. And I a lot of it - be sure of that. I'm affly Alice.
[[?Jan]] has card from Mr Shaw - Daughter married Oct 6. [[/marginalia]]
