That certainly would be a weak wall, that had no better brace than the earth, & the slabs & bundles of crane grass would have to be pressed in between the earth & the posts, which could not be done without [[?jarring]] the entire frame work;  & I am forced to think that there must have been posts to brace the outer [[?]] of posts, & that the slabs filled up the spaces between these brace-posts.  I see no other way.  I will write R. this A.M. but I would plan for that construction, & about the peculiar [[?Grey]] of the back strings.

The rafters stood out as a thick fringe around the center opening, there was no ring of willow [[?myths]].
