My very dear Ida,

You have been so often in my thoughts & always in my heart, but I had not your [[?Leunen]] address & as postals have been the only things I could do, I did not wait any for I was pretty sure postals could not be forwarded to you by your hotel.  I arrived here last evening after a wonderful [[drive?]] from Liddes a queer little village up in the mountains, down to Martigny & then up, up, up, & then down, down, to one of the most picturesque places I have seen, Trient.  Two stout horses pulled us up.  Mrs Barnes has Austrian friend
