Dear Mr Hodge.

Thanks for Dr. Boas open letter which I have [[strikethrough]] just [[/strikethrough]] read with regret that he has allowed personal feelings to so sway better judgement. It is [[?laudable]] to me. [[strikethrough]] Every recog. [[/strikethrough]]

[[strikethrough]] I heard [[/strikethrough]] the letter gives on p.3, I heard, read before the Council at the Baltimore meeting of the Institute, [[strikethrough]] but [[/strikethrough]] I [[strikethrough]] have [[/strikethrough]] do not recollect [[strikethrough]] ion of [[/strikethrough]] the passage about establishing a School of Arch. at Boulder. The fact [[strikethrough]] being [[/strikethrough]] is that to my knowledge no such proposition was ever made, or such a desire by Boulder intimated. There are other [[strikethrough]] matters are not correctly stated, as [[/strikethrough]] in accusation for instance that the "[[?Minority]]-report" was not presented, [[strikethrough]] the facts being that all [[/strikethrough]] where as the report was read by me before the Execution Com. of the Institute at the Toronto meeting held in 1908. I never heard of any papers [[strikethrough]] excavation [[/strikethrough]] "work" in Dakota until I read of it in the letter printed on p.4.

To any one cognizant of [[strikethrough]] the history of all [[/strikethrough]] the relation between Dr. Boas & Dr. Newell, it becomes difficult not to construe the publication of this open letter at this time, otherwise than as a [[?]] designed to be used to produce [[strikethrough]] an [[/strikethrough]] unfortunate [[strikethrough]] impression [[/strikethrough]] action toward the Director of [[strikethrough]] the School of [[/strikethrough]] Amer. Arch. at the Pittsburgh meeting of the Arch Institute [[strikethrough]] of Amer [[/strikethrough]] which [[strikethrough]] will [[/strikethrough]] takes place in about two weeks [[strikethrough]] time [[/strikethrough]]: The "open letter" being dated from the city of Mexico has [[strikethrough]] is [[/strikethrough]] also its significant. This publication will be apt to hurt Dr. Boas more than any one else [[strikethrough]] and I am sorry for for the the exhibition of feeling which is to apparent [[/strikethrough]] and it is surely a kindness to help let it to die in silence.
