Border troubles Had so far [[?]] a large class of persons against Indians that they demanded their extermination & of course they were ready to endorse even over such wrongs & barbarities as those committed by Col. Chivington in the Cheyennes &   Arapahoes.
Persons who have had friends killed & scalped or barborously treated by Indians, are not likely to discriminate between the innocent & the guilty.  To them an Indian is an Indian.  In many minds all are regarded as guilty or if some have not participated in actual murders it is only because they lacked opportunity.  Even the little children are looked upon as devils in the process of growth.  It surely cannot be wrong to crush young [[?]].  A Yankee woman was overheard willing that [[?]] Miss would [[?]] in a Omaha [[?]] camp of 1300 Dakota women and children.  It is very [[?]] that Indian and white are held here.
