don't know how to use the reaper and a great many machines are spoiled just because the Indians don't know how to handle them.  If they break any of the reapers they are scolded for it, but they don't know how to use them.  If they were shown how they would soon learn and know how to use them themselves.  The farmer comes around on horseback and looks on for a minute or two and does nothing to show them. Instead of coming to the place and showing how to use the machine he comes and horseback- and the Indians don't know how to use them without spoiling them- and when any machine is brought back broken they scold them.  If they had [[farmer?]] to teach them they would learn and that would make them go on farther with their work.  The Indians have learned scarcely any thing yet of the white man's ways and because they don't learn the white man's ways it is hard
