Industrial Boarding School,

Omaha Agency ,Neb., Sept. 3d '87.

Rev. Chas. Clement,

Hubbard,Neb.

Dear Sir:-

I am receipt of yours of Aug. 26th,in which you ask the privilege of officiating at this school,on the ground that the same has been allowed Protestant ministers: In reply will say that during my incumbency of nearly two years , as required by the Department of the Interior a Sunday school has been held conducted by myself, occas [[strikethrough]] s [[/strikethrough]] ionally assisted by a Protestant minister. The teachings of the school have been restricted to the fundamental doctrines of Christianity held in common by Catholics and Protestants, and in no case has the minister ever exercised his ministerial functions; this course has been pursued because the policy of the Dept.,as I understand it, is that the Government schools shall not be used for sectarian purposes. These tenets and forms of worship peculiarily, and distinctively demonination^[[al]] were better taught and practiced in missions and schools avowedly such.

With the restrictions and limitations above mentioned

cheerfully accord to you the same right and privileges which as been allowed the Protestant ministers. Trusting that the course will meet the approval of your candid judgement as impartial I am, Rev. sir,

Very Respectfully Yours Servant,
