Winnebago
Nebraska Sept. 16 7
Hon. Commissioner of Indian Affairs.
Sir:
I have the pleasure of acknowledging your communication of Sept. 10 marked L. Auth. 16. 206 granting me authority to employ a surveyor and if necessary assistants. Thanks for your prompt kindness in this important matter.
I have engaged Mr Moses Warner, a son of Agent Warner, who vouches for the qualifications of the surveyor. He is also recommended by other persons whom I have seen, who have knowledge of his work. He was his fathers assistant during the work for the Omaha tribe, and also for that portion of the reservation west of the railroad which was taken up by white settlers.
[[?]] has already gone out to the Indians to meet me in the field, and those who are to locate west of the Logan Creek, will be placed there next week. The surveyor and I will be at work on Monday the 19th instant.
Very Respectfully.
