Agent Gordon, who at first thought I was severe upon James Moses, not knowing the man as I did, told me in Washington in the winter of 1889-90 that he had told the present Agent that this tribe could not advance until James Moses was deprived of position and influence at the Agency.  Jame Moses has held the position of Judge by Agency appointment until [[?now]] when yielding to pressure the Agent granted an election for Judge, and Jas. Moses was defeated.  ^[[His term of office expires June 30, 1891.]]

I have gone thus into detail, not because of any mere man, but because Jas. Moses represents a class of men that should not seem to be [[endured?]] by the Government.
