Sir:

The allotment work of the Clearwater and East of the Potlatch are about completed and the roads in that part of the reservation laid out.  This part of the work has been fraught with difficulties as the roads are used by the white settlers and hitherto the reservation has been unrestricted ground.  As far as I can learn there is considerable satisfaction over the work accomplished.

The allotments east of Craig's Mt and the western line of the reservation are also nearing completion, there are some new surveys to be made East of the Cottonwood, cr, but it will be well to defer this & the allotments there until later in the season, as field work can be carried on here much further into the Fall than beyond the [[G?]] [[mountain?]].  I have kept my head quarters here, having been away in camp but over, across the Clearwater, as all the work has been within boundaries of ten or fifteen miles, and there have
