Kamiah
July 22 9

Dear Mr. Monteith
Your letter of July 6th was handed me after the church service yesterday.

As to the reports you mention, they are not worth treating with any seriousness, and such talk is best met by silence.

The Indians here are busy harvesting, but I have called them to meet me this morning and talk over their land stead. The valley here is much less in extent than I had hoped, and I have to confess to much disappointment in the quality of the land east of Craigs Mt.

The weather is intensely hot. I hope it is cooler with you, and that all goes well in office and household.

With Greetings to Mrs Monteith in which Miss Gay joins.

Yours truly
