My dear Gen. Whittlesey

Your welcome letter of Oct 5, written at Lake Mohunk has found me. I have also rec'd a copy of Commis. Morgan's address upon Ind. education, which I like exceedingly. I like all I know of Gen. Morgan, and I trust he will be well sustained by all good men, for I am inclined to think that there will be opposition to many of his plans, & perhaps his confirmation, for he has not altogether pleased some political magnates. If Gen. Morgan is well supported, & has ample appropriation, I believe he will lift things ahead.

Your letter brings me the best of news, that the questions of the family and marriage relations, perhaps the amount of land allotted are likely to receive attention. I trust Justice Strong and his Committee will formulate a bill that will cover the ground and then get it passed.

You ask me if I think it best to declare by U. S. [[?]] that all children ^[[of those]] whose lands are patented
