Hon. Commissioner of Indian Affairs
Sir:

Having an opportunity to send to Lewiston, I have today sent a telegram to you stating that I have received no reply to my application for funds to continue the Survey. I fear all my letters do not reach you. I have been camping a large part of the last four months, & frequently had to use chance passers to take my mail. When I saw that the amt. set apart for the survey $1500. would be insufficient to cover the expense of the work for this year, I made application for further funds, stating the condition of the work, its difficulty and its necessity. I reported this in my Estimate for 2d Quarter. Altho the $1500. is exhausted, I have kept the party in the field hoping each day to hear, for to withdraw them, & dismiss them, would be detrimental to the allotment. I trust you will approve my action & grant further funds.

Respectfully
