Sir:

I have the honor to report that I have returned from the north western part of the reservation. During my trip the Surveyor came out and I completed the allotment of about 6,000 acres. Many of these allotments were selected early in the summer, and all of them upon land where no Indians had ever claimed, but they were not formally entered upon my books until now, nor the various claims adjusted. This region contains the best agricultural soil on the reservation and possesses the advantage of lying near the Railroad and a steady market. I have therefore urged upon some of the most thrifty Indians to take their allotments there and have planted one or two fine colonies. This land lying in Township 36. & 37 Range 4 west. has been coveted by the white men and the hope has been openly expressed that no Indians would be located there. Now that Indians have
