from Lewiston up the Snake river is already under construction to Camas Prairie, so that ^[[the]] stageline will soon be superceeded by the cars.

As to the improvements upon these stations, the fences have in both cases been made from the timber in the reservation, taken without compensation. Mr Caldwell's dwelling burned down last year and the present box house is a cheap affair and his out buildings are dilapidated. His orchard was partly killed a few years since, and altho. of diminished value is the best of his improvements. Even this would be forfit where the land on which he planted trees owned by white men.

If Mr Caldwell were removed at once he could not properly complain as he has had free use of a fine tract of land, besides unlimited herding of stock for nearly twenty years, but he never lost anything as there are men on the reservation entitled to allotment who would pay him a fair price for all his invaluable property. Mr Fountain's house and out buildings are much better, but there too could be bought by allottees.
