Kamiah Nez Perce Res Idaho.
July 4, 1890

Hon. Commis of Indian Affairs.

Sir:

Herewith I enclose a letter from Rev. Jos. N. Guidi of Lewiston, Ida. who has direction of the Roman Catholic Mission on the Nez Perce res. a subordinate Priest being in charge; also a copy of the petition referred to in the letter.

Both Father Guidi and Father Cataldo, who has control of all the R. C. Missions in Idaho, requested me to present the following proposition regarding the securing of a larger amount of land on the reservation than is allowed for mission purposes by the Act of Feb. 8. 1887, and to ascertain which if either of them is feasable.

1st Is the tribe competent to donate to the Roman Catholic church 480 acres more than the 160 acres granted by the Act of Feb. 8, 1887. So as to make the amount held by the R. C. church for Mission purposes one square mile? Should it be by vote, and how many favorable votes required?
