My dear F.
The wool found in the field has been identified by Prof. Allen, & you were right in your surmise. It is Bison Americanus.  You have by this time received the sample I sent you.

I enclose today a bit of the cloth. I cut it off before Mr Dorsey took it to poison the bird. Every thing has to be poisoned so that it will not be lost.  I think you had better put it in a box or something where it will be safe.  Is it not very fine &
