My dear F.

The diagram of the camp circle came this A. M.  Thanks.  Mr Willoughby is to make one in colors. after your plan.  I don't quite understand this [[note?]] beside the Pole. is that the excavation made in the ground- [[image - sideways keyhole]] of this shape.? - All day yesterday I worked over the shell bag and its contents and I have been at it all this morning. and am not thru yet.  

Photographs were taken of the bag. then the bag. opened. then the shell opened. The shell is broken. and Prof. Putnam says it must have been broken purposely by a heavy blow with a stone. for one of two purposes- Either to 

[[margin notes]] Wont you take 27 days beginning Sept. 2. that gives you two Sundays. 30 days. & 1 day over for some other time. & insists that I stop there on my way home. I must do so.  I want to stop in New York & try & get the S. A. bird from [[Nibrota?]] but I don't know where to stay.  I may be able to arrange it.  I have not yet been able to get at the flag.  Dr [[Winson?]] has the picture of it & is working upon it.  Love to Miss Gay. & thanks for the photo. I hope all is well - I am homesick & so very tired.  Greet Rebecca. & all the friends.
