my suggestions that you omit the vacation chapters, because, I said "it seemed like using up good material in an incidental way when it could be used to make a companion volume" xx giving "the life of an Indian boy whose life could perhaps be made to contrast with the little fellows who were sent to school."  I asked him if he thought it would help the book to add the vacation chapters, adding, " Bear in mind that these chapters will use up material that cannot be duplicated & that will, I fear, not have as distinct a setting as the scenes deserve."  I thought it best to speak of this in this way to Mr Carman that he might know of your original plan, and why it had been changed, and also why I had suggested the change, & the omission of the chapters.  
As to the title which he desires changed- what do you think?  What would you suggest?  I wrote Mr Small asking him to notify me of his decision.  I said you would take under consideration a change in the name of the book, to which Mr Carman objected, and any other changes that in his judgement would be an advantage to the book.  I shall await with keen interest word from Mr Small.
As to Mr Carmans suggestion of using
