My dear Francis
Your letter of Aug. 5 came this morning.  I am just back from a walk of over a mile & a half with some ink.  I had used up all that was in my room & I can't expect to be always borrowing.  Your letter has made me feel very happy, for in it you have expressed your feelings toward me and I am glad of it alltho. I am sorry that my words about parting of the ways, made you sad.  I rejoice as you know, that this change has come alltho. it must take you for a time from home.  I know that your home is much to you and I am glad it exists for it is much to me.  I have to fight against homesickness, and did I follow
[[margin]] Did I tell you that Mrs [[?]] son's child was dead. died in the long hard birth.  A fine large boy-  very sad for all.
Congresbury is pronounced Coomsb'ry-
