My dear Francis
Your letters of Aug 15, have just reached me here having been forwarded by Miss Gay from Fair Orchard. I am very glad to know that matters are settled and I hope all will go well with you and with the work. I think your plan is wise to start with the terms that may be unfamiliar, and which may occur in the talks you will have to have, as you progress in your study of the people.

I also note your acct of the [[old?]] ceremony & of the three cornered
fight, you discerned. I have no doubt that when you go among the Osage you will be often distrusted by

[[margin]] I will write to you there. I go to Sheffield on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week, address me still at Fair Orchard.

Goodbye Take good care of yourself.
Ever affly. M.
