Mrs Cushing wrote she will go to California in November. I can better go now than any other time. I think.

Law in England is queer. Small offences are tried before a magistrate. He is the big man of the village, no legal training. There are no lawyers to prosecute or defend.  The police give testimony & the magistrate sentences.  Here is something that happened recently.  A woman stole a door mat.  Sold it for 6 cents to guy food.  She was so poor & hungry.  She was arrested taken to the magistrate who sentenced her to 4 years in prison at hard labor.

Two men were arrested for enticing a girl away they received for this vile act over H 5000, all this was found on them & the facts stated. the magistrate sentenced them to 2 months in jail. England in many ways is far behind us.  Only murders & large offenses are tried in court.

I get very homesick. do you wonder-
