6 many interesting points. I went on Tuesday to [[?gton]] & visited the old church there. It was very queer to note the use of animals and I wonder a good deal about it. Was is not a sort of echo of the [[?]] belief of the people of his relation of man to the animals? I very much hope that I may live & be asked to go to some of these places with you. I would like to have you see them & we talk them over. In Wells there is one place where the lines of the Arches converge & where they meet there is the head of a queer animal, in another place where the lines of the Arches converge there is the head of a bearded man. I suppose meant for the diety. While I was at Mr. Hartlands I read two vols. of Mrs. Fazer's last work in Vols. "Totemem and Exogony" - I must have these volumnes & I want you to read them & we talk them over. I read a good deal at Prof. Myers & at Mr. Hartlands. While there he showed me a French book giving an account of some Indians who were taken over to France in 1550 & of a ceremoney they performed there at Rouen at that time. I can't recall the tribe, I must write Mr. H. & ask him.
