[[image - line drawing of a street intersection with the four streets labeled "West gate", "North gate", "East gate", and "South gate".]]

The streets led to the four gates. After the Romans left & when the city became Christian a cross was put up at this crossing. That was common in England over a 1000 years ago. The Cathedral was built somewhere in 1100 or 1200. Wherever you turn you meet something that reminds you of past events. I read a history of Gloucestershire (Shire means a division, that is a county) while at Mr. Hartland's and it was very interesting.

I sent you the postal picture. I did not have time to look over if I could get pictures of what I wanted but had to take a "set" & some are fitter than others. I send some of my postcards home
for Dora to keep for me & to save weight.

Dora writes that all is well. Mr Cushing is at this time in Newkirk where his Ceilia goes to do shopping. I suppose for his daughter who is to be married next month. Mrs. Cushing goes to
California in November, if there is no change in his present plans. I think it would be nice for you to write her a note, if you have not done so. I suppose you write Mrs Parmes - you ought to.

Goodbye. Let me hear often. I am deeply interested. Take good care of yourself, be careful of water, drinking water, don't get Malaria.
Ever affly M.
