Dear Francis.

Your enclosed and very interesting letter of Sept 14 has this moment come and has been read with great interest.

I am glad you have got into touch with Black Dog, and that he is willing to talk.  I hope soon you will be able to dispence with the interpreter for I think that you will probably be better able to get at the [[?]] thought when there is no outside person present.  I am delighted with your progress.

I think the Bureau will expect you to have these legends ^[[& myths]] in the original as well as in translation.  So you must as soon as possible write them down both in Osage and in English.  This will be hard work and troublesome, I know, but it will be expected.  Write them in Osage in your note books so that if called upon you can share them.
