I know what their requirements are at the Bureau.  Mr. H. thought you would soon acquire facility of speech in the Osage language and so deal directly with the people, this he said to me, and I assented & said I was sure that it would not be long before you would be quite at home in Osage.  So I tell you that you may govern yourself accordingly in all the work.

The legend or myth.  I think it should be classed as a myth, because a legend has some actual fact to build upon, white this story is the attempt of the people to explain to themselves the mystery of creation, so it is a myth, not founded on a fact, but on a conception of the cosmos, and the birth of the human race. It is a very interesting and poetic story.  I shall be so glad to hear it all.
