I will write Mr. Gurley and ask him to send you a proof sheet, from the galley which contains what we published about the Osage so that you can look into the matter, for I think it will prove to be important.  If you have the diagram & the list of the groups that will help you to make inquiries.

You must find out if there groups, I mean the 5 large groups are gentes - or if [[strikethrough]] they are [[/strikethrough]] each one is a group of gentes.  In order to ascertain this you must find out if each subdivision of the group, is treated as a gens. [[strikethrough]]can[[/strikethrough]] if the members marry [[strikethrough]]within[[/strikethrough]] each other ^[[or if they are forbidden to do so]] that will be one point.  Is there a common rite to which all the subdivision of a group take parts.  This is going to be a difficult matter to work out, and I will do all I can to help you.  I think you will have to first take the list that Mr. Gurley will send you, and find out all you can about the rites and custom of each group - then when you have
