with a corp of workers, Fellows, students &c. You see that the position of chairman will become one of great responsibility, and I am unwilling to undertake it. I have brought the School into existence, and through a stormy infancy and I shall now be glad to turn it over to a competent Chairman. I mean to do so, in any event. The next meeting is to be called at Santa Fé. such was the decision at Providence, for it is intended to unify the work & the business of the School in every way. I have written thus fully that you may fully understand the whole subject. I have said nothing to anyone about my purpose to resign. I shall do so, without fail. I think it is best every way and by so doing I shall be able to conserve my strength, for I want to live to help you with your work on the Osage. You are getting a fine lot of material. I am glad you like the Omaha book. I've done my best in my share of it and I think it will help in the way we want it to help the race, & all mankind.

I shall have to have the Literary Soc'y here this year, and they have given me the date of March 25. I wish you were to be home.
