My dear Francis 

Just after I stamped & mailed my letter to you this noon I telephoned to the doctors Pope the friends whom I always see here dear old friends to ask about Mrs Barrows & if I could come up & see them this afternoon. I was told Mrs Barrows was dead, & that the funeral service would take place this afternoon.
