Osage Indian Agency,
Pawhuska, Oklahoma,
August 15, 1919.

Mr. Charles J. Kappler
Continnental Trust Bldg.,
Washington D. C.

Sir:

Reply to your letter of July 1 asking for [[page torn away]] information in behalf of Mr. Frank LaFlesche who is writing a history of the Osage Indians for the Bureau of Ethnology was delayed on account of some of the data called for not being available. However, I am unable to get authentic figures for donations made by Osages to the various war activities but am giving you an approximate estimate, viz:-

Liberty bombs & W. S. S........$2,240,300
Donations War Activities,
including Red Cross, etc.,..... 50,000
Volunteers-full-bloods..................5
Drafted-Full-bloods....................27
Volunteers Mixed-bloods................26
Drafted Mixed-bloods...................24

With reference to the subscriptions for Liberty bonds and donations for war activities, I desire to say that this only applies to the Osage reservation and no doubt considerable money was subscribed and given by Osages living within the county and outside the state of which this office has no record. There was only one Osage killed in action and none severely wounded, although the majority of those whose names appear above took part in conflicts.

Should there be any other information that I can furnish, I will be pleased to do so upon request.

Respectfully,

Superintendent.
