My dear M,

Just a line to tell you that the deed is done. Taft is nominated and it is to be hoped will be elected. T.R wanted to bolt he found no support neither from from his financial backers nor his lieutenants. He is a sadder if not a wiser man than when he began the fight. He is now endeavoring to organize a new party to be called the "Progressives". How he will succeed remains to be seen. There may be some mischievous results but the split that is expected at the Baltimore Convention which begins tomorrow may even up and equalize the advantage between the two great parties. Opinion is so divided that many Republicans will [[strikethrough]] fo [[/strikethrough]] vote the Democratic ticket- and many Democrats the Republican ticket.
