July 2 - 1912

My dear M-

Yours of June 21- came yesterday. I would have written then but the Osage inauguration was going on so had no time. In spite of the Secretary's disapproval of Bacon Rind and Red Eagle the mixed bloods seated the chiefs. The people who attended the inauguration were mostly white and mixed bloods. The full-bloods did not attend because they say it was the work of men interested in oil leases which is perfectly true. They made use of Osage politics to further the oil schemes. They have chosen Osages for these offices whom they can easily manipulate. It is an interesting fight between the Secretary and the mixed bloods. How it will turn out remains to be seen.

The new agent was not ready to come so a superior was sent to take charge until the new man comes. This Mr. Peterson seems to be quite a pleasant man and he has so far shown a
