While they could be published, it would not be advisable to do so as they may be necessary to explain many things in the rites to which they belong. It is embarrassing to be hurried up so when I am doing my very best in circumstances that are difficult and are beyond my control. However, I will report the three manuscripts completed and others not yet typewritten and will let the thing go at that. While the typewritten matter represents only something like 250 typewritten pages, the material was most difficult to secure but I do not suppose that will be appreciated. Of course, a report of the work is due the Bureau but I suspect that there is a feeling that I am not getting along with the work fast enough — and if I were sure that there is such a feeling I would give up the Osage work and go back to the Indian Bureau. It may come to that yet.
