My dear M.
When I mailed my letter to you yesterday morning I received one from Mr. Hodge telling me that $750.00 was allotted to me for my field expenses — (the full amount of my estimate), subject to the final passage of the final passage of the Sundry Civil Bill. I had hardly expected it since I had turned back unexpended a large amount of last year's allowance. I feel now that I can do something and when this great heat lets up some I shall go at those men again. In the mean time I shall typewrite all of the rituals that are complete & make both literal and free translations. There are two or three that have lines that I am not certain
