I had the hardest kind of work with this man because he was so nervous and squirmed a good deal as he sang, frequently banging the tripod of the machine with his deformed foot. Then too he never volunteered any explanation of the songs, and I had to prompt him hard, till toward the last.

Mr. Peterson is leaving but he expects to be back again. He may be appointed assist Supt, here, and if he is, it will be of great help to me in many ways. He is quite an alert man and is quick to see the true conditions of this complicated community. He thinks I have been of great assistance to him while he was in temporary charge. His wife is very pleasant too and both expressed the hope that they would meet me again. The new man is quite friendly too but he is so quiet and undemonstrative, like somebody that you have known the better part of your life, but I think we will get along nicely.
