My dear M,
I have not answered your letter of July 25" in which you enclosed letters of Mr. Hartland and Mrs. [[Hovey?]]. I am very glad those people remember you and write you such pleasant letters. Since receiving this letter I have been pretty busy and I have written you, and I am going to be pretty busy while I am transcribing the songs and rituals I have been taking from [[Wa-sho-she?]], but the work is so that I can drop it and write you when I want to.
