that they are of native make. I think that this is the oldest of the pipes, judging from the read stem and the copper tubes and the shell beads. With the pipe was a bunch of bits of scalps wound round at the top with a narrow band of woven vegitable fibre dyed a yellowish brown. Some of the strands of this band were strung with small white beads. There are a number of other things in this pack but not worth mentioning. If the Museum is unable to buy it I would be inclined to keep the thing myself. It is something fine and the case in which the things are kept have been well cared for and are in a perfect state of preservation. The outer buffalo hair bag has not been worn or moth-eaten and the others have been and the mat case with the seven and six stitches is in good condition.
