case may be hopeless.

I have neglected to ask you to keep my letters in while I give descriptions of the peyote and other ceremonies but I suppose you will do so as you have done in the past. I have not taken any notes as I thought you would keep the letters.

My hostess has been getting a supply of napkins on my account also nice towels. My room is clean and comfortable but there are no hooks for hanging clothes. I suspect the only bedstead in the house was purchased on account of my coming. It is a single bed. These people dont like beds and they sleep on mattresses spread upon the floor. My host insisted last night, upon my keeping a light burning in my room as the spirit of the murdered man will be visiting every house in the tribe for the period of four days. I did not like it but I could not very well decline. In every room a light was kept burning. He says that the Non-hou-zhi-ga painting is not given a murdered man, but all his body and face is painted red, and the moccasins given him are painted red. The spirit in visiting the houses woud go to the moccasins and look longingly at them and then go to another house to repeat the same act. For this reason the people place their moccasins at the foot of the bed so that they might avoid looking into the face of the spirit should he make his round of visits.

I wish I was through now so that I can come home. The people are good to me and take good care of me but I miss that which is mine and accustomed to.

Will write again. Love to the Parsons.

Affly,
